Common Eye Conditions
Cataract
A cataract is clouding of the clear lens in the eye and is one of the leading causes of vision impairment. This clouding of the lens causes clouding of the vision, glare, and sensitivity to light and as It matures eventually blindness
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a condition which affects the optic nerve, the nerve that takes the information from your eye to your brain. It is commonly but not always caused by an increased pressure.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a degenerative eye condition caused by changes to the back of the eye, specifically the macular region of the retina which is responsible for clear central vision.
Diabetes
Diabetes increases the risk of a range of eye diseases, but the main cause of blindness associated with diabetes is diabetic retinopathy (DR). DR damages blood vessels inside the retina at the back of the eye.
Dry eyes
Dry eye refers to the reduction of quality or quantity of the tears produced for the eyes. Tears are important to keep the front of the eyes well lubricated.

Red eyes
Red eyes can be a sign of minor irritation or something more serious like an infection or
allergy. Our optometrists are qualified to asses red eyes and prescribe medication where needed.
Amblyopia
Amblyopia or lazy eye is a condition where one eye does not reach normal vision resulting in reliance on the other better eye. It is commonly diagnosed at a young age and can be treated if spotted early.
Strabismus
Strabismus also known as squint or eye turn is a misalignment of one or both eyes, the turn can be there constantly or come and go intermittently.
Binocular vision disorders
Binocular vision disorders involve a variety of conditions affecting the way the eyes work together to perform tasks such as fine movements and focusing (accommodation).
Myopia
Myopia or short sightedness is when the eyeball is too long for the focusing power of the eye resulting in blurry vision, particularly in the distance.
Hyperopia
Hyperopia or long sightedness is when the eyeball is too short for the focusing power of the eye resulting in blurry vision, eye strain and headaches particularly up close when reading.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is due to the irregular shape eye, this causes blurry vision and eye strain at both distance and near. Astigmatism can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses.
Presbyopia
Presbyopia is blurry vision associated with age. As the eye ages the lens gradually thickens and loses flexibility and you have difficulty focusing on objects that are up close.
Children’s Vision
Your child’s eyes are rapidly developing in the early years of life so an eye test for children is important to check they are hitting all the vision milestones.
